Operation Write Home – Package 1

DSC07129

Here is my first shipment! I had about 274!   I got to the post office and realized that I had the $14.95 box, but only $11 in my pocket!  So I sat at the counter and moved it all into the medium box!

I got them all in!  Woot!  Woot!

Here is a snippet from the Operation Write Home! (click on the link to read the entire article)

Thankful Thursday: September 23, 2010

Well, this week saw our shippers processing a record amount of mail in just one week: 26,274 cards! Yes 26,274!! The avalanche has truly begun! Many many thanks to all who are stamping the backs of their cards, and learning "the tuck" so well - you're making our job SO much more manageable.

(I was 151!  I just had to cut and paste my name in to brag!)

  • Sue and MHV Paper Dolls Club and MHV Booneville Club, Booneville, MS
  • Trisha, Punta Gorda
  • Angela, Indianapolis, IN
  • So last month, their shipping alone was $9,000 with all the cards they sent overseas!  So I think I am going to have to put in more than the $10 it cost for me to ship!

Remember if you want to help me, I will always have my box with me at any of the events I am attending.  I will also have a collection can for donations for shipping.  Each month, whatever money I have left after shipping the box to the handler, I send it with the box!

Thank you for your help!  I could not have sent my September box, if it wasn’t for the help of the following!

    • Tracy Croy
    • Donna Brown
    • Darleth Wilhelm

    Thank you, everybody!

    Delightfully Spooky with Copics!

    SpookyDelight1 001

I wanted to show off a couple of cards I did for the Operation Write Home.  I made almost 80 cards for Halloween and needed a nice way to color them quickly. So my solution was to “scribble” the background.  I got the scribble technique from another Angel, here she is!

    Delightfully Spooky T-3348  $15.95    Set of 9

I thought this was a nice way to really show off the cute little kids, while keeping me from having to color them.  I am using the Copic ciao Set A, at this time this all I own.  I hope to get a couple more sets soon.Spookydelight2 001

The background paper is a DCWV seasonal pack I picked up.  When I was getting the cards prepped, I had used the pack to top the front of the cards.  After about 40, I was ready for different paper, but I think that is with any color palette.

So here is the technique I did for the background:

    1. Use a darker copic to lightly scribble around the image.  I made the scribbles denser around the image and then thinned it out as I got away from the image.
    2. Use the lighter color to scribble in for the spots missed near the image and to then out past the darker color.

I hope you like it!  I will be posting pictures on Friday of the box I am sending to Operation Write Home.  I have a few to pick up from other people, but right now I have 244!  YEAH!!!!

If you want more ideas with this stamp set, go to the following angels!

        Operation Write Home

        www.operationwritehome.org

I am really excited about this program.  I have been scrapbooking for about 6 years and just recently gave up the paper, scissors, ink, and stamps to go digital.  I was happy for the first couple of months, because being digital, gets my memories scrapbooked without much stress or time.  But I soon began to miss something.  The ink, the paper, the stamps, the coloring.  Scrapbooking was therapeutic getting all pictures and embellishments together was stress.

So when The Angel Company found me and I knew I had to be a part of it, I had to figure out what to do.  I am not a card sender, so making cards seemed fruitless.  Well, that was until I discovered Operation Write Home.  All of a sudden, Card making is fruitful and loving.

I am so excited about Operation Write Home that I am setting some goals for myself.  I would like to eventually send 250,000 to the soldiers.   I am going to start with my first goal of 1,500 by New Years Eve.  But I cannot  do it without help.

You can participate in Operation Write Home by holding a card making party to support deployed heroes, and this is a great opportunity for everyone to get involved. The Requirements involved are the following:

        • Invite your association’s circle of friends: members, friends, and families
        • Set a time and location for your event. Determine if it will be a few hours, half a day, or whole day event.
        • Create a goal on the number of cards you want to create at your event
        • Ask your circle of friends to bring their card making or scrapbook supplies.
        • Collect donations at the event for shipping and the organization itself.

        I will provide the following:

        • Stamping supplies for the cards, Cricut cutting machine and cartridges to use, and paper punches
        • Low cost kits for participants without supplies
        • Insure all cards adhere to the Operation Write Home Requirements
        • Shipping requirements
        • Stamping techniques and demonstrations
        • Provide a station for writing letters and cards for any soldier

I look forward to posting pictures of these events.
